Have fun in ComedySportz Boston show

ComedySportz Boston is the New England franchise of ComedySportz Worldwide. We produce public home shows based in Somerville and Jamaica Plain, and we also produce private shows and corporate training events throughout the New England area – Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. Furthermore, we offer ComedySportz workshops, classes and training that are open to the public for anyone wanting to learn more about improv comedy.

What is a ComedySportz Boston show like?

Unlike “Standup Comedy” in which one performer tells pre-planned jokes to the audience, improvisational comedy makes up scenes and games on the spot based on audience suggestions. A ComedySportz match features two teams of players competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. An average of seven to twelve games are played during a match, drawn from a repertoire of over a hundred improv games. For example, in the game “Shakespeare” a team will improvise a scene inspired by an audience suggestion in Shakespearean style, and in “Forward/Reverse” the referee sends the scene back and forth at will, as though scanning a scene in a DVD, sending the athletes into a frenzy. Every show is different, with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers.  ComedySportz also asks “willing volunteers” to join us for a game or two during each match, and we make them look great!

Who should I bring to ComedySportz Boston?
The great thing about ComedySportz Boston is that it’s great for most ages (kids should be patient enough to sit through a 90-minute show). The audience of a typical ComedySportz match contains everyone from children to college students to parents to grandparents. Everyone has a good time and no one gets offended! In fact, if an actlete steps beyond the boundaries of good taste the “brown bag foul” (a brown paper sack placed over the offending player’s head) will be called to set things straight. If you think “clean” is boring think again – you owe it to yourself to check us out. We’ll guarantee that you, your family and your friends will all have a great time!
